10 Things you should know about Greeks before traveling to Greece

When you think about traveling to a foreign country, an important factor to take into consideration should be the people. You will spend time leaving in their territory for a while, even if just passing by, and it is better for you if you know what to expect.
If you are someone who wishes to learn about the culture of the country you’re visiting or just want more than just the history from museums, the best way to do so, is by staying with the people. One of the best countries to experience this is Greece. It’s really astonishing how its people don’t just share a thing or two, slowly letting you discover, but they grab your hand and pull you right into their world.

And you find yourself absorbing everything around you like a sponge, from traditions and day to day life, to history and incredible sights.

One good way of fully feeling Greece’s magic can be by deciding to book a room at a family-owned hotel. Or even better, if you’d rather save as much money as you possibly can, a solution could be finding a Greek family to stay with. But no matter
what you choose, just know that they are welcoming and helpful people, eager to learn more about you and your culture while happily showing you theirs. These are some general qualities of Greeks and here are a few things you should know about them before you visit Greece:

1

They are kind and open to new people, unprejudiced, and very straightforward,
and they don’t shy away from anything. So, don’t feel embarrassed to ask them for
help
.

2

They are affectionate people, very hospitable and friendly, and they will make sure
you feel at home as much as possible while still showing you a different side of the
world, literally.

3

Greeks are generous and they will invite you into their homes openly, feed you,
and take care of you in times of need.

4

They are passionate and approach life with a sense of humor and optimism, something we find truly difficult to do some times.

5

Greeks love their family tremendously and will do anything for it no matter what.

6

They are spontaneous people, they live for the moment and not for tomorrow.

7

10. For the cheese lovers, this might be the one for you. Greeks love feta cheese! It is served with almost everything Greek and a meal is not a meal without it.

8

Their dances are out of this world! They put so much energy into it and it feels as if
they are expressing themselves through the movements of their body. They are not the type of people to sit down after one dance, so if you happen to go to a party with them, make sure you can keep up, if not match their liveliness

9

They love their coffee. True evidence being the multitude of coffee shops on every
street corner. I think it’s because Greeks are very sociable, they enjoy going out with friends even for just an hour to talk and laugh together, savoring and enjoying the
good taste of coffee.

10

heir language doesn’t just sound ancient, it is ancient! So, if you expect to
understand anything at first, you probably won’t. But don’t get discouraged by it and
don’t give up, Greek is a beautiful language. I mean, they have at least 6 words to
express love. How cool is that?
